Christmas Shopping Trips

Weighbridge Christmas market

Make the most of the artisan markets and winter festivals

Christmas in the Channel Islands means magical seasonal festivals, artisan markets and late night shop openings. Find unique handmade gifts and tasty treats amongst the twinkling lights of the seasonal market stalls and browse the beautifully decorated shops for that special something. Festive street entertainers and carol singers bring the season to life and there’s always time to sit back and enjoy them with a toasty hot choclate or glass of mulled wine.

Jersey’s Christmas events

Christmas in Jersey starts with late night Christmas shopping every Thursday from 26th November when St Helier’s shops will stay open until 9pm. Goodies of every shape and size can be found in the great range of high street favourites, local boutique shops and covered markets. Jersey’s shops will also be opening on Sundays (a rare occurrence) in the run up to Christmas.

Accompanying the first late night shopping evening will be the grand Christmas light switch on when Santa’s train and carol singers will be busy around the town. Families can also enjoy ‘Enchanted Narnia’ this year, a magical world where you can even have dinner with Father Christmas. Adults may prefer the yuletide atmosphere at the National Trust for Jersey’s regency property, 16 New Street, where you can take a candlelit tour and costumed actors serve seasonal refreshments by the log fire. There’s also traditional toys and gifts in the shop.

Jersey’s special Christmas festival, La Fête dé Noué will be held from 3rd – 6th December when wooden alpine chalets decorated with twinkling lights line Royal Square for the Spirit of Christmas Market and a spectacular parade brings festive fun to the streets.

Many other Christmas events run throughout the island during December including a Christmas Tree Festival in St Peter’s Parish Church from 5th – 13th, specialist walks, musical evenings, a pantomime and parish markets.

Guernsey’s festive spirit

Christmas in Guernsey starts with the arrival of Father Christmas by boat into St Peter Port Harbour and the Christmas Light Switch on on 28th November. Street entertainment and artisan stalls line the pretty cobbled streets and the shops will stay open that bit longer on Thursday’s (3rd, 10th & 17th) in St Peter Port and on Tuesday’s at The Bridge (8th, 15th and 22nd). If you miss Father Christmas’ arrival in St Peter Port then catch him switching on the festive lights at The Bridge in St Sampson on 4th December.

Festive Alderney

Alderney’s Christmas celebrations arrive in the form of ‘Festive Alderney’ on 1st December when Island Hall becomes magically illuminated and Christmas markets, a winter torchlit procession, the Santa Special train and various water based Christmas fun will be taking place.
